Information on Our Dermal Fillers and Injectables

Botox®

Botox® consists of Botulinum toxin type A, which is injected into the face to temporarily block nerve activity in overworked muscles that causes wrinkles. The injections reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles, including crow’s feet, forehead creases, and bunny lines. This injectable treatment can last from 3-6 months before a touch-up treatment is needed.

Kybella®

Kybella® is the first and only FDA-approved, non-surgical treatment to improve the appearance of a double chin, or submental fullness. Kybella® consists of deoxycholic acid, which naturally occurs in the body, and helps to break down and absorb dietary fat. Kybella® is injected into the areas under the chin with submental fat, and correction is visible after two to four sessions. After patients receive their Kybella® treatments, results are usually long-term.

Juvéderm®

Juvéderm® is a type of hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is injected into facial features. Juvéderm® is used to immediately smooth smile lines, vertical lip lines, marionette lines, and adds volume to the chin and cheekbones for a refined facial contour. Results from Juvéderm® can last 4-6 months.

Restylane®

Restylane® is a hyaluronic acid injection filler to add volume to the lips, as well as reduce facial wrinkles. Restylane® instantly fills lines and wrinkles, as well as the lips in just one short treatment session. Restylane® can last between 6-9 months, and when used in the lips, can last from 3-4 months

Sculptra®

Sculptra® is composed of synthetic poly-L-lactic acid, which corrects fine lines, wrinkles, sunken cheeks, and other areas that appear hollow due to a loss of collagen. Sculptra® does not provide instant results, but rather gradually restores and stimulates collagen production over time. Results are long-lasting and can last up to two years.

Dysport®

Dysport® is similar to Botox® since they both consist of Botulinum toxin type A, and are injected into facial muscles to temporarily block nerve activity in the muscles. Dysport® is used to treat frown lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, and wrinkles in the forehead area. Results can last about 3-6 months before another treatment is required.

Radiesse®

Radiesse® is a facial filler that replenishes lost volume and stimulates the production of your own natural collagen with results that can last a year or more. Radiesse® can help to fill smile lines, marionette lines, jowl folds, corners of the mouth, chin wrinkles and even smooth skin wrinkles on the hands.

Additional FAQs About Dermal Fillers and Injectables

What Body Areas Can Be Treated by Injectables and Dermal Fillers?

Injectable treatments and dermal fillers can be used to address many signs of aging on the body, including forehead lines, crow’s feet, fine wrinkles, frown lines, nasolabial folds, sunken cheeks, lines around the lips, and can also be used for plumping lips.

Which Type of Dermal Filler or Injectable is Best for Me?

The injectable treatment that is right for you depends on the areas of aging that you wish to address. Different injectable treatments treat different areas of the face, so treatment area must be determined before the type of injectable or dermal filler is chosen. A consultation with one of our doctors can help to determine which treatment option is right for you.

What is the Difference Between Botox® and Dermal Fillers?

While Botox® and Dysport® are neuromodulators, meaning that they temporary relax facial muscles to smooth lines and wrinkles, dermal fillers actually add volume under the skin to fill in lines and wrinkles. These two treatments work differently, are formulated differently, and treat different areas of the face. It is important that you discuss your aesthetic goals with your doctor during your facial filler consultation to ensure that you undergo the treatment that is right for you.

How Often Can I Get Injectable Treatments?

Each injectable treatment has its own longevity; while some treatments last for 3-4 months, others may last for up to two years! The type of injectable treatment you undergo will determine when your next treatment session is needed.

What Can I Expect from Dermal Fillers and Injectables?

Injectable treatments act as anti-aging treatments and can smooth skin on the face for a more youthful appearance. Many injectable dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid fillers which stimulate collagen production in the skin to restore volume, improve skin elasticity, and create a smoother complexion. Results from injectables are immediately visible, and improve over time.

How are Dermal Fillers Performed?

During an injectable fillers procedure, the filler of choice will be injected into the targeted area using a very fine, thin needle. Because we mix all of our injectable treatment with the numbing solution lidocaine, patients feel virtually no discomfort during their treatment session. Treatment is quick, usually lasting 15-20 minutes, and there is no downtime required.

Do Injectable Treatments Hurt?

Injectable treatments are typically well-tolerated among patients, and a topical anesthetic can be applied to the treatment area to help ensure a comfortable treatment experience. Some injectables are even formulated with lidocaine, so there is no need for topical anesthetic beforehand. At our practice, our goal is to ensure that each patient’s treatment is as comfortable as possible and that they receive the results they desire.

Will Dermal Fillers and Injectables Leave Scars?

Because injectable treatments are non-surgical, there are no incisions and stitches required, and therefore, no scarring.

Are There Any Side Effects From Dermal Fillers or Injectables?

As with any cosmetic treatment, there are side effects associated with dermal fillers. These include:

  • Bruising
  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Itching
  • Bumps

These side effects are typically mild and resolve on their own with time. It is important to discuss any potential side effects during your consultation.

How Long Do Injectables Last?

The longevity of injectables varies depending on the specific injectable treatment that is done. In general, injectables can last anywhere from three months to two years. During your consultation, you can discuss the expected longevity of your specific injectable treatment.

What Are the Risks of Dermal Fillers and Injectable Treatments?

Although rare, injectable treatments are associated with the following risks:

  • Acne-like skin eruptions
  • Skin rash with itching
  • Under-or over-correction of wrinkles
  • Skin necrosis
  • Infection at the injection site
  • Blindness
  • Asymmetry

How Long of a Downtime Can I Expect With Dermal Fillers?

There is typically little to no downtime associated with dermal fillers, so patients can return to work, shopping, or anything else they would like to do as soon as possible. Many patients find that this no downtime treatment option is extremely convenient.

Who is the Best Candidate for Injectable Treatments?

People with horizontal wrinkles on their forehead, crow’s feet, lines between their eyebrows, smile lines, facial wrinkles and folds, lines around the lips, loss of volume in the mid-face , or small or thin lips may be able to benefit from injectables or dermal fillers. These treatments are ideal for those who wish to achieve facial rejuvenation for a more youthful appearance. There is often no downtime associated with injectable treatments or dermal fillers, so patients can feel free to return to their everyday routines as soon as they feel comfortable.
