During this procedure, your surgeon will carefully make an incision leading from your latissimus dorsi your back muscle so your skin and muscle can be lifted. The way the incision is placed will allow your doctor to create a tunnel underneath the skin. The selected tissue from your latissimus dorsi will then be moved through the tunnel from your back to your chest where your new breasts will be reconstructed. Though it is possible to create a breast mound using skin and muscle from the latissimus dorsi alone, the procedure may also require the use of small implants or tissue expanders. Following your surgery, generally you will have 1-2 day hospital stay, several days of bed rest are required, and strenuous activity should be avoided for up to 6 weeks.
